About the position

As a Special Education Teacher at Uplift Williams Primary, you will play a crucial role in providing specialized educational experiences tailored to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that foster intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. You will work closely with students, parents, and other educational staff to create a supportive learning environment that encourages each student to reach their highest potential. This position requires a commitment to equity and inclusion, ensuring that all students thrive as their authentic selves. In this role, you will design and utilize instructional materials that are modified to suit the diverse learning styles and needs of your students. You will collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure that IEP modifications are effectively integrated into the general education curriculum. Your responsibilities will also include conducting assessments to evaluate student progress, managing classroom behavior, and maintaining open lines of communication with parents and colleagues. You will be expected to participate in ARD Committee meetings and contribute to the development of educational strategies that align with each student's IEP. Additionally, you will oversee the work of teacher aides and volunteers, ensuring that they are effectively supporting the educational process. Your role will also involve managing extracurricular activities and providing personal care for students as outlined in their IEPs. You will be an advocate for your students, working to create a safe and nurturing classroom environment that promotes learning and personal growth. Continuous professional development will be encouraged to enhance your skills and stay updated with best practices in special education.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and charter policies for special education.
  • Engage in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from an accredited college or university required.
  • Special education endorsements for assignments or ability to obtain them.
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certification required for special education endorsements.
  • Previous teaching experience is a plus.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook).
  • Ability to learn and use other software as necessary.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Special Education is preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish, are a plus.
