About the position

The Special Education Teacher at Amergis is responsible for providing quality educational services to special education students from kindergarten through grade 12. This role involves collaboration with parents, general education staff, and other professionals to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that support the diverse needs of students with various disabilities. The teacher is committed to fostering a positive learning environment and ensuring that students achieve their educational, physical, and social development goals.

Responsibilities

• Prepares student education plans in consultation with parents and department team members
• Supports learning for students with a wide range of disabilities
• Designs individual and small group instruction that aligns with the general education curriculum
• Assists in developing educational plans with parents and professionals
• Prepares materials and classrooms for class activities
• Coordinates IEP implementation with general education staff
• Monitors student progress and participates in IEP reviews
• Maintains accurate student records
• Mentors and supports teaching assistants
• Supports students in grade transitions and life skills preparation
• Assesses students' skills and educational needs
• Discusses students' progress with other teachers
• Communicates with students and parents to maintain positive relationships
• Follows School District policies and procedures

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university preferred
• Valid state teaching certificate as required by state regulations
• Minimum of one year experience in a teaching environment preferred
• State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred
• State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred
• State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred
• Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred
• Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
• Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
• Current CPR certification if applicable
• TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
• Current Health certificate as per contract or state regulation
• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
• Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
• Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
• Strong communication skills and proficiency in English
• Computer proficiency required
• Must be at least 18 years of age
