About the position

Geist Montessori Academy seeks an enthusiastic, caring, trained special education teacher to join our team of passionate educators in supporting students and teachers in a Montessori learning environment. The ideal candidate believes all students can succeed and that each child deserves the grace, patience, and care of adults to guide him/her on a lifelong journey of learning. The ideal candidate should desire to be a part of a team of dedicated educators who are themselves lifelong learners. The candidate should be able to work with colleagues to identify student needs and develop an appropriate educational plan to meet each student where they are and help them reach their optimum level of success. The schedule for this position can be flexible based on the needs and availability of the individual who is hired. Options for full and part-time, in-person and work-from-home are all possible points of discussion in the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Work with colleagues to identify student needs and develop strategies to meet identified needs
  • Align Special Education support services with a Montessori philosophy and approach to instruction
  • Develop student IEPs and hold annual case conferences to meet all requirements and timelines
  • Work with students in the general education setting as well as the resource room as appropriate based on the level of student need to help students reach their learning goals
  • Maintain confidentiality and treat all students with respect at all times
  • Progress monitor to evaluate student progress, record results, and issue reports to inform parents
  • Discuss student's academic and behavior problems with Lead Teacher, parent(s), and administrators and suggest needed interventions
  • Provide professional development for staff in the areas of RTI, differentiation, etc.
  • Reinforce and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment
  • Communicates clearly with Lead Teachers and other school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students
  • Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned curriculum, supplies, materials, property, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse and teaches children the same
  • Contributes to the culture of the school through committees, events, and/or extra-curricular activities

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree
  • Valid Indiana Teaching License in Special Education

  • Montessori experience and or training preferred, but not required
