About the position

The Middle School Special Education Teacher will support students with diverse learning needs by employing various teaching strategies to enhance their skills in language, motor functions, and memory. The role involves adapting the general education curriculum to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities, guiding them in socially acceptable behavior, and maintaining a positive classroom environment. The teacher will also collaborate with parents and professionals to develop effective Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and provide crisis intervention when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Support students with diverse learning needs using various teaching strategies.
• Teach academic subjects using phonetics and multi-sensory learning techniques.
• Adapt the general education curriculum to fit the needs of students with disabilities.
• Plan balanced instructional activities and maintain a positive classroom environment.
• Regularly meet with parents and professionals to discuss student progress and develop IEPs.
• Maintain accurate record-keeping and communicate lesson objectives clearly.
• Provide crisis intervention when needed and assist in data collection for classroom interventions.
• Participate in professional development activities and manage student behavior verbally.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Education and a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate as required by MDE.
• OR; Bachelor's Degree and enrollment in a state-approved program leading to teacher certification as required by MDE.
