About the position

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark (CCAN) is seeking dedicated and passionate full-time Special Education Teachers to join the team at Mount Carmel Guild Academy, a private out-of-district placement for children with special education needs, serving grades PRE-K-12. The primary function of the Special Education Teacher is to plan and implement effective classroom instruction that promotes growth in self-expression among students. This role involves creating tailored learning opportunities that align with Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives, ensuring that instruction is delivered at an appropriate level according to the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards (CCCS). Teachers will be responsible for motivating students through positive reinforcement and utilizing the school-wide behavior modification program to foster a conducive learning environment. Daily monitoring of student progress is essential, along with maintaining detailed notes for reference. Communication with parents is facilitated through a notebook system, ensuring that they are kept informed of their child's progress and any relevant classroom activities. In addition to direct instruction, the Special Education Teacher will provide guidance and direction to teacher assistants, collaborate with other staff members as needed, and develop instructional materials that accommodate individual differences among students. Regular completion of progress reports every 60 days is required, along with the writing and development of present levels of educational performance and new goals and objectives for annual reviews. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
  • NJDOE Teacher of Students with Disabilities Certification PLUS & EL ED K-6 or Teacher of the Handicapped certification.
  • 2-3 years of teaching experience preferred.
