About the position

New Story School in Monroeville, PA is seeking a qualified Special Education Teacher to teach our emotional support and/or autistic support students. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play an integral role in the success of our students while overseeing the classroom team and the dynamics and functioning of all staff within your classroom. This position is crucial in ensuring that students receive the appropriate educational support tailored to their individual needs. You will be responsible for completing the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process, which includes IEP development, collaboration with multidisciplinary team members, and preparation of required paperwork. Your role will also involve developing lesson plans that keep students actively engaged in learning by using a variety of instructional strategies. These lesson plans should be tailored to meet the individual needs of students based on IEP goals and objectives, including modifications listed in specially designed instruction. In addition to lesson planning, you will be required to submit necessary documentation, including lesson plans, IEPs, report cards, progress reports, evaluation reports, and other related materials in a timely manner. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with members of the multidisciplinary team to develop, design, and implement appropriate services for students. Your interpersonal skills will be essential in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, parents/guardians, school/company personnel, and others involved in the child's educational and behavioral program. You will also need to possess knowledge of child development, behavior modification techniques, and common behavioral disorders exhibited by children and adolescents. Strong decision-making, leadership, organizational, and communication skills are vital for success in this position. Additionally, maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Complete Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process, which includes IEP development, collaboration with multidisciplinary team members, and preparation of required paperwork.

  • Submit required documentation, including lesson plans, IEPs, report cards, progress reports, evaluation reports, and other related material in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary team to develop/design and implement appropriate services.

Requirements

  • Six months' experience working with children with behavior/learning disorders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Special Education or related field.
  • PA Teacher License.
  • Teacher - Spec. Ed. certification.
