About the position

The Special Education Teacher (K-12) will inspire and guide students towards their fullest potential in a supportive and dynamic environment. This role involves developing and maintaining an effective learning environment, preparing lesson plans, and evaluating student progress while adhering to educational regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

• Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
• Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
• Prepares for classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon request.
• Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
• Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media based on student needs.
• Implements the Intermediate Unit's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
• Takes necessary precautions to protect students and resources.
• Evaluates student progress regularly and maintains accurate records.
• Upholds and enforces school rules and regulations.
• Makes provisions for availability to students and parents outside instructional hours.
• Serves on multi-disciplinary teams and attends IEP conferences.
• Participates in faculty meetings and collaborates with staff on instructional goals.
• Assists in selecting instructional materials and equipment.
• Shares responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.
• Establishes communication with students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
• Maintains cooperative relations with others.
• Pursues professional growth through ongoing education and workshops.

Requirements

• Valid Teaching Certificate
• Bachelor's Degree in Education (minimum)
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and administrators
• Familiarity with educational research and statistics
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of Chapter 14 Regulations and Standards
• Knowledge of IDEA and gifted education regulations
