The Special Education Teacher position is a 10-month role at an elementary school, aimed at providing students with disabilities a comprehensive educational program that fosters their physical, social-emotional, psychological, behavioral, and intellectual growth. The teacher will be responsible for creating an inclusive classroom environment that meets the diverse needs of students, ensuring that each child can reach their fullest potential. This role requires a proactive and optimistic individual who can encourage and sustain students' efforts towards their educational goals. The teacher will work closely with students, parents, and other educational professionals to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that comply with state education mandates. The teacher will assess students both informally and formally to tailor classroom programs to individual needs. Responsibilities include designing appropriate activities to meet IEP goals, supervising students, maintaining attendance records, and providing assistance with regular class assignments. The teacher will also collaborate with regular classroom teachers to interpret students' abilities and disabilities, ensuring that all students receive the support they need. Regular communication with parents and staff is essential to discuss students' progress and any necessary interventions. Continuous professional development in the field of special education is encouraged to enhance teaching practices and student outcomes. The evaluation of the teacher's performance will be conducted annually by the Building Principal, Assistant Principal, Curriculum Coordinator, and other designated administrators, in accordance with the established agreement between the Superintendent and the Lyons Teachers' Association. The terms of employment will align with the policies set by the Board of Education.
