About the position

The Special Education Teacher at Elizabeth Seton Children's is responsible for providing tailored educational support to students with diverse learning needs, particularly those with disabilities in grades 1st to 6th. The role focuses on creating individualized lesson plans, conducting assessments, and fostering a supportive classroom environment to help students thrive despite their challenging medical conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement personalized lesson plans and educational activities based on each child's unique needs, strengths, and interests.
  • Conduct assessments to identify students' abilities and needs, develop IEPs, and regularly monitor and document progress.
  • Create and maintain a supportive, structured classroom environment that fosters learning and positive behavior.
  • Work closely with parents, caregivers, and other educators to ensure cohesive support for students.
  • Develop and implement behavioral interventions and strategies to address challenging behaviors and support positive social interactions.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in special education and early childhood education.
  • Ensure that all practices are in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with families, providing regular updates on student progress and strategies for continued support at home.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid state certification in Special Education for early childhood settings.
  • Previous experience working with children in a special education or inclusive setting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of early childhood development and special education methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans.
  • Proficiency in assessment and data collection.
  • Compassionate and patient demeanor with a strong commitment to student growth.
