About the position

The Special Education Teacher position at Amergis is designed for qualified educators who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of students with diverse learning needs. This role welcomes candidates with various support types, including Emotional, Learning, and Autistic support. The position requires a commitment of 37.5 hours per week, with specific schedules depending on the building placement. It is important to note that elementary schools typically have different start times compared to high schools, which may affect the daily schedule of the teacher. Candidates for this role must hold certification as a Special Education Teacher in Pennsylvania. Additionally, those with an Emergency Certification are encouraged to apply. The Emergency Certification is particularly suited for individuals with backgrounds in social work, case work, behavioral technology, counseling, or coaching, provided they possess at least a Bachelor's Degree. This flexibility in certification allows for a broader range of qualified candidates to contribute to the educational environment. Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized instruction to students with special needs.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices.
  • Monitor and assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and needs.
  • Participate in professional development and training opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and behavior.

Requirements

  • Certified Teacher or Special Education Teacher in Pennsylvania.
  • Bachelor's Degree for Emergency Certification candidates.
  • Experience working with students with special needs is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a school setting as a social worker, case worker, or counselor.
  • Knowledge of behavioral management techniques.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators.
