About the position

The Special Education Teacher at Abraxas Youth & Family Services plays a crucial role in providing educational services to children and adolescents within a full-time emotional support classroom. This position is dedicated to fostering a supportive and effective learning environment for students with special needs. The teacher will be responsible for conducting educational assessments to evaluate the academic and behavioral needs of students, ensuring that each child receives the appropriate support tailored to their individual requirements. In addition to assessments, the Special Education Teacher will develop and implement academic programming that aligns with the students' educational goals and regulatory requirements. This includes creating lesson plans, adapting instructional materials, and utilizing various teaching strategies to engage students effectively. The teacher will also be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive documentation related to student progress, behavioral assessments, and compliance with educational regulations. The Special Education Teacher will participate in meetings and contribute to the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students, ensuring that their unique needs are met within the educational framework. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate in respective grade level.
  • Endorsements in respective subject area or an original signed letter from the Certification Officer verifying enrollment in an approved certification program.
