The Special Education Teacher at Amergis is responsible for providing quality educational services to special education students from kindergarten through grade 12. Under the guidance of the Special Education Program Administrator, the teacher will engage in collaborative planning and implementation of individualized student programs, which include special instruction, tutorial assistance, and consultation with general education staff. This role is crucial in supporting students with a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities, ensuring that they receive the necessary resources and support to thrive in their educational environment. The teacher will prepare student education plans in consultation with parents and team members, design instruction that aligns with the general education curriculum, and assist various stakeholders in developing educational plans that promote students' educational, physical, and social development. Responsibilities also include preparing materials and classrooms for class activities, coordinating the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with general education staff, and monitoring student progress while participating in the review and revision of IEPs as needed. In addition to these duties, the Special Education Teacher will maintain accurate student records, mentor teaching assistants, and support students in their transitions between grades and in developing life skills. Effective communication with students, parents, and other teachers is essential to maintain positive relationships and ensure a supportive learning environment. The teacher must adhere to all school district policies and procedures while fulfilling their responsibilities.
