About the position

The Special Education Teacher at The Leona Group is responsible for providing direct support to special education students within the regular education classroom. This role involves collaboration with general education teachers to ensure that special education students receive the necessary adaptations and accommodations to succeed academically. The teacher will also engage in team teaching and assist in developing behavior intervention plans, making this position crucial for fostering an inclusive educational environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct services to special education students that are supportive of the general education teacher.
• Provide consultation and assistance to general education teachers for planning, making adaptations and accommodations for special education students.
• Team teach with general education teachers who have special education students that require direct special education teacher instruction in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
• Assist general education teacher in providing supervision to volunteers and teacher aides who assist in making curriculum modifications, adapting assignments, and providing individualized support to special education students.
• Assist teachers and the school social worker in developing and implementing behavior intervention plans for students on his/her caseload.
• Consult with general education teachers in assigning grades and developing evaluative measures for students on his/her caseload.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
• Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
• Experience working with special education students in a classroom setting.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree in Special Education or related field.
• Experience with behavior intervention plans.
• Familiarity with IEP development and implementation.
