About the position

The Special Education Teacher position is a full-time role based in Glendale, Arizona, set to begin in July 2024 for the 2024-2025 school year. This position is dedicated to making a significant impact in the lives of children with special needs by providing tailored educational services. The teacher will work within a school setting, focusing on preschool grades, and will be responsible for planning and implementing educational strategies that cater to the individual needs of students. The role requires a commitment to assessing each student's current knowledge and skill level, setting learning goals, and monitoring progress to ensure educational success. The primary responsibility of the Special Education Teacher is to develop and execute an integrated educational plan for each child. This involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including classroom teachers, parents, psychologists, social workers, and other medical and school staff. The teacher will perform a variety of assessments and observations to identify areas where students may require additional or modified educational services, which may encompass academic performance, behavior, social development, or physical health. In addition to direct educational services, the Special Education Teacher will coordinate and attend Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, ensuring that all prescribed services are delivered effectively. The teacher will also maintain comprehensive documentation as required by the district, including notes, monthly summaries, and annual IEPs. This role is crucial in fostering an inclusive educational environment that supports the diverse needs of students and promotes their overall development.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of assessments and observations to determine the areas in which the student may need extra or modified educational services.
  • Develop an integrated plan for the education of each child by collaborating with classroom teachers, parents, psychologists, social workers, and other medical and school staff.
  • Consult and collaborate with school staff and families regarding students' educational deficits.
  • Coordinate and attend IEP meetings.
  • Provide Special Education sessions through the use of current best practices based on prescribed services in the IEP.
  • Maintain all documentation required by the district including, but not limited to, notes, monthly summaries, and annual IEPs.

Requirements

  • Must hold a current Arizona Department of Education Teaching Certification.
  • Have successful experience working with culturally diverse families.
  • Assumes responsibility for ongoing continuing education and professional development.
