About the position

The Edwardsville Community Unit School District 7 is seeking dedicated Special Education Teachers for the 2024-2025 school year. The ideal candidates will possess appropriate Illinois Licensure and preferably multiple certifications. The role requires superior work habits and ethics, excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and parents. Teachers will be responsible for creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that fosters student engagement and success. In this position, teachers will communicate high expectations for student learning and assess students' knowledge and skills to tailor instruction accordingly. They will specify lesson purposes and learning objectives, providing learning tasks that are appropriately challenging for students. The role involves teaching using a variety of methods, including lectures, modeling, and role-playing, while ensuring that students receive prompt feedback on their performance. Teachers will also be responsible for summarizing lessons, encouraging student input, and re-teaching concepts as necessary to ensure understanding. Organizational and management skills are crucial, as teachers will establish classroom procedures, complete lesson plans in accordance with district policies, and maintain a high level of student engagement. They will monitor student behavior, encouraging appropriate conduct and addressing any issues that arise. Personal qualities such as respectfulness, enthusiasm, and the ability to foster student participation are essential for success in this role. Responsibilities

  • Teaches accurate principles, concepts, rationale, and applications as well as specific content
  • Provides students with prompt feedback on their learning, performance, and progress
  • Requires students to recall, explain, compare, contrast and evaluate information
  • Provides students with prompt and appropriate feedback on their learning, performance and progress
  • Re-teaches as necessary
  • Summarizes the main points of the lesson, brings closure, and explains what will be taught next
  • Encourages student input for improvement of instruction
  • Establishes procedures for routine classroom management matters
  • Completes lesson plans in accordance with the EEA collective bargaining agreement, Article III, Section I and Board Policy No. 403
  • Distributes materials and supplies necessary for an instructional lesson in a timely manner
  • Starts students on tasks quickly and assures efficient transitions between activities
  • Maintains a high level of time-on-task for all students
  • Monitors student behavior continuously, encouraging appropriate behavior and addresses inappropriate behavior
  • Interacts with students in a mutually respectful manner
  • Expresses verbal enthusiasm for the lesson and student participation
  • Praises students for learning accomplishments, on-task behaviors and appropriate conduct
  • Gives all students opportunities to ask questions, contribute, and otherwise participate in class activities
  • Teaches the approved curriculum of the district
  • Maintains punctuality and regular attendance
  • Completes reports and records accurately and promptly
  • Maintains appropriate communications with colleagues for planning and teaching

Benefits

  • Base pay of $46K per year
