About the position

The Special Events Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, implementing, promoting, and supervising recreation programming and special events for the City of Denton. This seasonal position involves overseeing staff and volunteers, managing event logistics, and ensuring successful execution of community events while maintaining budgetary compliance and resource allocation.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise assigned staff, volunteers, and contract instructors; monitor work tasks and assist with payroll.
  • Coordinate and oversee development of new and existing events and activities, including timelines, vendors, and volunteers.
  • Provide on-site support for events, including set-up, safety, and communications.
  • Develop new community events, partnerships, and sponsorship acquisitions; assist with existing events.
  • Serve as a liaison for internal and external stakeholders in the coordination of special events.
  • Process pre-event and post-event correspondence and surveys to ensure a successful experience.
  • Monitor resource allocation and maintain program area supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with report preparation related to departmental activities and other administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and six years of recreation experience or related field, including one year of supervisory experience, OR a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation or related field and two years of recreation experience, including one year of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws related to parks and recreation.
  • Knowledge of leisure, social, health, and legal needs of individuals with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of CPR/AED first aid procedures and recreational activities.
  • Skill in moderate problem solving and working with Microsoft Office 365.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in event planning and coordination.
  • Familiarity with budget management and reporting.
  • Ability to develop and implement community outreach programs.
