About the position

The Special Investigative Services Technician (SIS Technician) plays a crucial role in the Department of Justice by assisting in investigations related to prohibited acts within a federal correctional facility. This position is responsible for maintaining security, developing reports, and supporting the Special Investigative Agent and Supervisor in their duties. The role emphasizes the importance of public safety and the humane treatment of individuals within the correctional system, contributing to their successful reentry into society.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Special Investigative Agent/Supervisor in conducting investigations of inmate violations of BOP prohibited acts.
  • Develop reports and prepare correspondence related to investigations.
  • Maintain evidence and provide computer support for investigative activities.
  • Conduct investigations that may range from several hours to weeks or months depending on severity.
  • Ensure the security of the institution as part of regular duties.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service.
  • Experience assisting in conducting investigations or investigative research.
  • Knowledge of investigative techniques, control of evidence, and crime scene preservation.
  • Familiarity with current telephone monitoring equipment, drug test kits, and media recording devices.
