About the position

The Community Support Specialist/DSP Internship program is designed to provide entry-level individuals with the skills and experience necessary to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Interns will work under the guidance of qualified Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to deliver high-quality services that empower individuals to lead self-directed lives and participate fully in their communities.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals with empowerment and communication.
• Facilitate community services and networking.
• Provide community living skills and supports.
• Support education, training, and self-development.
• Advocate for individuals in vocational and educational settings.
• Document interactions and maintain records.
• Build and maintain healthy relationships with participants.
• Support health and wellness, including assistance with daily tasks.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid Identification Card or Driver's License required.
• Ability to pass a background check and health screenings.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in community support or related fields.
• Knowledge of the NADSP Code of Ethics.
