About the position

The Special Operations Psychological/Mental Health Technician position at KBR is a critical role that involves assisting with the management and treatment of outpatient behavioral health activities. This position operates under the supervision of licensed mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, and psychologists. The technician is responsible for providing a wide range of behavioral health interventions, from prevention to treatment, to individuals facing various psychological challenges. The role requires a high degree of independence, as the technician will perform standard and non-standard work assignments, utilizing extensive guidelines while exercising judgment to select the most appropriate guidelines for specific situations. Unusual matters that are not covered by existing policies will be referred to the government supervisor for guidance. In this role, the technician will conduct intakes, assist in the care and treatment of psychiatric, drug, and alcohol patients, and provide counseling to clients with personal, behavioral, or psychological issues. The technician will observe patients to detect behavior patterns and report these observations to licensed behavioral health staff. Additionally, the technician will lead individual or group therapy sessions as part of specific therapeutic procedures, complete initial intake interviews, and maintain statistical data related to patient care. The technician will also administer psychological tests and assessments under the supervision of licensed professionals, ensuring accurate data collection and reporting. The position requires the technician to maintain a computerized database of service members, prepare daily correspondence, and assist in developing program-operating instructions. The technician will be responsible for managing appointment templates for clinical providers, maintaining supply stock levels, and gathering data for various presentations related to process improvements and patient outcomes. The role also involves coordinating meetings, preparing case reports, and maintaining a resource library for professional staff and customers. Overall, the technician plays a vital role in supporting the mental health needs of service members and their families, contributing to a healthier and more resilient community.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the management and treatment of outpatient behavioral health activities.
  • Conduct intakes and assist with care and treatment of psychiatric, drug, and alcohol patients.
  • Counsel clients/patients with personal, behavioral, or psychological problems.
  • Observe patients to detect behavior patterns and report observations to licensed behavioral health staff.
  • Lead prescribed individual or group therapy sessions under the guidance of a licensed mental health professional.
  • Complete initial intake interviews and required forms for new patients on behalf of the licensed mental health provider.
  • Collect and maintain monthly statistical data for the assigned workplace.
  • Administer psychological tests and prepare reports for psychological testing under supervision.
  • Populate and maintain a computerized database of service members and compile monthly training statistics.
  • Prepare daily correspondence, including training agendas and clinical appointments.
  • Assist in developing program-operating instructions and make recommendations for corrective action.
  • Ensure program operations are managed within budget by reviewing office time sheets.
  • Develop and implement appointment templates for clinical providers.
  • Maintain hand receipts for physical property and inventory, ensuring proper supply stock levels.
  • Gather data for presentations related to process improvements and patient outcomes.
  • Coordinate attendance and agenda at Case Review Committee meetings with military and civilian agencies.
  • Prepare open and closed case reports for outpatient medical records in accordance with regulations.
  • Maintain a resource library for professional staff and customers.
  • Provide services to families desiring information on healthy family life and parenting skills.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Requires a Secret Clearance or Top Secret Clearance, or the ability to obtain a clearance.
  • An associate degree or equivalent training as a psychiatric technician or mental health program assistant.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a psychiatric technician.
  • Completion of psychiatric technicians' training covering psychology and social work basics, conflict management, and crisis de-escalation.
  • Training in intervention and restraint techniques for violent or potentially violent patients.
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) by the American Heart Association.
