About the position

The Special Operations Strength and Conditioning Specialist (JSOC, National Capital Region) at KBR is a pivotal role designed to enhance the physical performance of Special Operations Forces (SOF) personnel. This position is responsible for establishing and administering effective strength and conditioning protocols tailored specifically for SOF Operators and Direct Combat Support personnel. The specialist will demonstrate and provide instruction on physical training, exercises, and injury avoidance, ensuring that all training is conducted safely and effectively. In this role, the specialist will design, administer, evaluate, and document the effects of physical training protocols for SOF personnel, whether they are in garrison, on temporary duty, or deployed. Collaboration is key, as the specialist will work closely with the Health Performance (HP) staff, sports medicine professionals, and mental performance and nutrition experts to create a holistic approach to human performance. The specialist will also be responsible for developing facility standard operating procedures and training protocols, maintaining compliance with local command training requirements, and participating in ongoing education to maintain professional certifications. The position requires a proactive approach to communication and collaboration, as the specialist will coordinate training programs for personnel recovering from injuries and ensure a smooth transition from rehabilitation to performance-based activities. Additionally, the specialist will assist in administrative duties, maintain records, and provide input regarding supply needs for the HP program. This role is essential in fostering a culture of safety, performance, and continuous improvement within the SOF community.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate and provide instruction and guidance on physical training, exercises, movements, and injury avoidance.
  • Design, administer, evaluate, and document the effects of physical training protocols for SOF personnel.
  • Coordinate training programs with the HP staff to ensure a safe return to training for SOF personnel recovering from injury.
  • Refer personnel with new or undiagnosed medical conditions to medical providers for evaluation and treatment.
  • Communicate and collaborate with sports medicine professionals to ensure a smooth transition from rehabilitation to performance activities.
  • Collaborate with mental performance and performance nutrition to ensure a holistic approach to human performance.
  • Assist in developing facility standard operating procedures, guidelines, and training protocols.
  • Participate in periodic meetings to review and evaluate physical training programs and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in periodic in-service training for members of the HP staff.
  • Attend required training and conferences to maintain professional certifications.
  • Perform administrative duties such as maintaining records of utilization and workload.
  • Develop and promulgate training materials as required by the HP program Manager.
  • Assist with supply inventories and provide input regarding supply needs for the HP program.
  • Utilize computers, software, and technologies as required by the HP program Manager.
  • Maintain compliance with local mandatory command training requirements.
  • Advise the chain of command on strength and conditioning and administrative matters.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must have a DoD Top Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Bachelor's Degree in an accredited exercise science, health science, or physical education-related discipline.
  • Current certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or the Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing performance programs for athletes.
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Current certification in basic CPR including AED training.
  • Physical proficiency to demonstrate prescribed exercises and to function in austere environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior military and/or SOF experience.
  • Master's degree in an accredited exercise science, health science, or physical education-related discipline.
