About the position

The Special Operations Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NCR- National Capital Region) position at KBR is designed for a highly skilled individual who will establish and administer effective strength and conditioning protocols aimed at maximizing the physical performance of Special Operations Forces (SOF) personnel. This role prioritizes the needs of SOF Operators and Direct Combat Support personnel, ensuring they are physically prepared for their demanding roles. The specialist will be responsible for demonstrating and providing instruction on physical training, exercises, and injury avoidance, while also designing, administering, evaluating, and documenting the effects of physical training protocols for SOF personnel in various settings, including garrison, temporary duty assignments (TDY/TAD), or deployment. In collaboration with the Health Performance (HP) staff, the specialist will coordinate training programs to facilitate a safe and efficient return to training for personnel recovering from injuries. This includes referring individuals with new or undiagnosed medical conditions to medical providers for evaluation and treatment. The role also involves communication and collaboration with sports medicine professionals, mental performance coaches, and performance nutritionists to ensure a holistic approach to human performance. The specialist will assist in developing standard operating procedures and training protocols, participate in meetings to review and improve training programs, and maintain compliance with local command training requirements. Additionally, the specialist will perform administrative duties, maintain records, develop training materials, assist with supply inventories, and advise the chain of command on strength and conditioning matters. This position requires a commitment to ongoing education and professional development, including attendance at necessary conferences or courses to maintain certifications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in exercise science and a passion for enhancing the performance of SOF personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate and provide instruction and guidance on physical training, exercises, movements, and injury avoidance.
  • Design, administer, evaluate, and document the effects of physical training protocols for SOF personnel in various settings.
  • Coordinate training programs with the HP staff for safe return to training of personnel recovering from injury.
  • Refer personnel with new or undiagnosed medical conditions to medical providers for evaluation and treatment.
  • Communicate and collaborate with sports medicine professionals and other specialists to ensure a holistic approach to performance.
  • Assist in developing facility standard operating procedures and training protocols for strength and conditioning equipment.
  • Participate in periodic meetings to review and evaluate physical training programs and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in in-service training for HP staff and/or POTFF staff as appropriate.
  • Attend required training and conferences to maintain professional certifications.
  • Perform administrative duties such as maintaining records and participating in quality assurance functions.
  • Develop and promulgate training materials as required by the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator.
  • Assist with supply inventories and provide input regarding supply needs for the HP program.
  • Utilize computers, software, and technologies as required by the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator.
  • Maintain compliance with local mandatory command training requirements.
  • Advise the chain of command on strength and conditioning and administrative matters.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must have a DoD Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Bachelor's Degree in an accredited exercise science, health science, or physical education-related discipline.
  • Current certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or the Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing performance programs for athletes at NCAA Division I, Olympic, professional, or SOF levels.
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Current certification in basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) including AED training.
  • Physical proficiency to demonstrate prescribed exercises and to function in austere environments.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate loads and weights up to 25 kilograms.

Nice-to-haves
