About the position

The Special Procedure Tech plays a crucial role in providing direct care to patients undergoing heart and vascular procedures. This position involves assisting physicians during procedures, monitoring patient conditions, and ensuring quality patient and family-centered care. The tech is responsible for various tasks including IV starts, patient preparation, hemodynamic monitoring, and equipment operation, all while adhering to safety standards and protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor patients undergoing routine invasive and interventional procedures.
  • Provide intra-procedural technical support and quality patient/family centered care.
  • Perform and record hemodynamic/physiologic wave forms and calculations as required.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, patients, families, and ancillary departments.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on technical equipment.
  • Maintain radiation safety standards for staff and patients.
  • Take on-call duties as per department schedule.
  • Assist physicians using sterile technique during procedures.
  • Participate in 3D imaging, vascular, and cerebral cases as needed.
  • Utilize IVUS, FFR, OCT, ICE, EKOS in Cath Lab procedures if applicable.
  • Participate in device implants and circulate in EP cases as required.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited radiography program (JRCERT) for Interventional Radiology.
  • Graduate of Cardiovascular Technologist program, Associate degree in cardiovascular technology/basic science, Paramedic license, or equivalent training for Cath Lab/EP Lab.
  • 1 year of experience in EP, Cath Lab, or IR is required.
  • BLS certification and active RT status upon hire for IR; RT-CV or VI within 2 years of hire.
  • BLS upon hire and ACLS within a maximum of 6 months for Cath Lab; Registered RCES/RCIS/RT certification, and IABP certification required.
  • BLS upon hire and ACLS within a maximum of 6 months for EP Lab; Registered RCIS/RCES required.
  • Basic computer skills, math skills, exceptional communication skills, and outstanding customer service skills.
