About the position

Hofstra University is seeking full-time Special Professors of Biology to teach introductory cell biology and genetics, as well as potentially medical microbiology laboratories for the Spring 2025 semester. These positions are temporary and focus on teaching within the Department of Biology, requiring collaboration with other instructors to enhance the curriculum and provide support to students.

Responsibilities

• Teach introductory cell biology and genetics lectures and laboratories.
• Possibly teach medical microbiology laboratories.
• Collaborate with other instructors to review and improve the curriculum.
• Attend weekly instructors' meetings.
• Provide a minimum of one office hour per week for every three contact hours assigned.
• Be available for student support.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in biology or a closely-related discipline.
• Experience teaching undergraduate biology courses.
• Demonstrated commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior teaching experience as instructor of record for introductory biology lecture and laboratory.
• Prior teaching or research experience in microbiology.
• Experience or openness to collaborating in a coordinated teaching environment for multiple sections courses.
• Prior training in or use of active-learning and student-centered learning techniques.

Benefits

• Salary range of $40,000-$42,000 per semester.
