About the position

The Special Programs Education Assistant supports special education and other identified students in a classroom setting under the direction of assigned personnel. The role involves assisting, tutoring, and training students, providing personal care assistance, and performing clerical tasks to support the instructional process. This position is essential for ensuring that students can participate in classroom activities and make progress on their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.

Responsibilities

• Assists special education students and other identified students under the general direction of the teacher.
• Attends meetings such as inservice training, workshops, and IEP meetings to convey and receive information.
• Confers with teachers to assist in evaluating special education student progress and implementing IEP objectives.
• Instructs special education students one-on-one or in small groups to help them progress on their IEP goals.
• Maintains instructional materials and student files to ensure availability and reliability of information.
• Monitors students in various settings to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
• Performs record keeping and clerical functions to support the teacher in preparing records and materials.
• Records observations and incidents relating to specific students for documentation and communication purposes.
• Responds to inquiries from staff to provide information and appropriate referrals.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment and maintain accurate records.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate activities and stages of child development.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and maintain confidentiality.

Benefits

• Salary range of $15.42 to $16.85 per hour.
• Full-time position with a 187-day school year.
