About the position

The Special Projects Analyst at UF Health is responsible for analyzing payment variances related to managed care and governmental payers. This role combines strong analytical skills with knowledge of billing concepts to ensure compliance with contracts and improve reimbursement processes. The analyst will work closely with various departments to resolve discrepancies, train staff on billing processes, and communicate effectively with payers and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze invoices in Epic follow-up work queues to determine contracted insurance payment compliance.
  • Submit actual payment variances through payer designated methods for additional reimbursement due.
  • Provide feedback on discrepancies related to Epic registration for training and correction.
  • Report identified discrepancies in payment and trended issues of payer non-compliance to Lead and Manager.
  • Manipulate data using Excel to validate payments and create projects for pursuing payment variances.
  • Communicate with designated representatives regarding project dispositions and maintain accountability for tracking.
  • Monitor reports and work queues to ensure timely review of unbilled charges by research coordinators.
  • Resolve billing errors on posted charges and make necessary corrections.
  • Train new research coordinators on Epic workflows including registration and billing report completion.
  • Research misapplied payments and assist in identifying payment posting resolutions.

Requirements

  • 3 years of medical billing/claims experience including coding and medical terminology.
  • 1 year of Microsoft Office experience essential, with proficiency in Excel required.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Certified Physician Coder (CPC) required within 6 months.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3 years of computer experience in medical billing preferred.
  • Up to 1 year of managed care administration or payer experience preferred.
  • Up to 1 year of Epic system experience preferred.
