About the position

Riddleberger Brothers, Inc. is seeking to hire a confident and experienced leader to join our team as a Special Projects Lead Technician. This position is crucial for assisting with the installation, startup, and commissioning of commercial and industrial HVAC equipment. The Special Projects Lead Technician will also serve as a lead for special projects training and development, ensuring that all team members are well-equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their tasks effectively. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of various HVAC systems, including air-to-air DX systems, VRF multizone systems, and hydronic systems, among others. The technician will be responsible for overseeing a crew of varying sizes, up to 10 individuals, and will need to communicate effectively with customers regarding project details. A strong emphasis is placed on safety, as the technician must comply with all safety standards, policies, and procedures. The position also requires maintaining a clean work area and adhering to housekeeping requirements. Regular attendance and the ability to work in a team environment are essential, along with a positive and teachable attitude. In addition to technical skills, the role demands flexibility in working hours, including the potential for overtime and overnight travel to job sites. The technician will participate in training and educational opportunities provided by the company to enhance their skills and knowledge in the HVAC field. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and be able to pass a full background and drug screening, as well as a physical ability test. Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation, startup, and commissioning of commercial/industrial HVAC equipment.
  • Serve as a lead for special projects training and development.
  • Understand and work with air-to-air DX systems, including split systems and package rooftop systems from 1 - 25 tons.
  • Understand and work with VRF multizone systems up to 30 tons.
  • Understand and work with hydronic systems, including heat pumps, scroll or screw chillers, and pumps/tanks up to 50 tons.
  • Understand and install hydronic piping systems for hot water, chill water, and condenser water.
  • Design sheet metal and produce drawings for fabrication.
  • Understand refrigeration piping systems and size them according to manufacturer requirements.
  • Understand light commercial low voltage control systems and perform diagnostics.
  • Comply with all safety standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Run a crew of varying sizes (up to 10).
  • Communicate directly with customers about project details.
  • Maintain a clean work area and comply with housekeeping requirements.
  • Participate in training and educational opportunities as offered or required by the company.

Requirements

  • OSHA 10-Hour Certification required as a minimum, additional training may be required.
  • HVAC CFC Universal certification is required.
  • Journeyman's license preferred.
  • Ability to run a crew of varying size (up to 10).
  • Ability to work directly with customers and communicate about the project.
  • Ability to travel to job sites and occasionally have overnight stays.
  • Ability to work 8-to-10-hour days, flexible schedule, and overtime when necessary.
  • Ability to pass a full background screening and drug screening.
  • A valid driver's license required and ability to meet company driver qualification policy preferred.
  • Ability to pass a physical ability test.
