About the position

The Special Recreation Program Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of various recreation programs, including Special Olympic sports and seasonal camps. This role involves planning activities, recruiting and supervising staff, managing budgets, and ensuring the safety and enjoyment of participants aged 5 to 25. The manager will work closely with the Special Recreation Supervisor and other program managers to coordinate events and promote community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement assigned Recreation Department programs in areas such as day camps, youth sports, and special events.
  • Innovate and develop new recreation programs based on community demand and cultural trends.
  • Provide safe and innovative Summer and Winter Day Camp activities for children aged 5 to 25.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Inclusion Aide staff, including program instructors and coaches.
  • Promote interest in assigned programs through publicity and marketing efforts.
  • Utilize social media and other interactive media for marketing and public relations.
  • Assist in drafting and managing program area operating budgets.
  • Coordinate with department heads on logistics for programs and events at park facilities.
  • Manage the District's Online Registration Portal and related administrative tasks.
  • Evaluate all assigned programs and supervised staff thoroughly.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, participants, parents, and the community.
  • Monitor facility and program inventory, supplies, and equipment in accordance with purchasing policy.
  • Ensure safety regulations are enforced for all participants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in recreation, sport management, or a closely related field.
  • 1-3 years of supervisory experience in Recreation Administration or Sport Management preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Illinois Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification or ability to obtain it.
  • Experience in managing facility and program budgets preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
