About the position

The Special Services Support Specialist role at Commonpoint is a part-time position focused on supporting children in a special education after-school program. The specialist will supervise children aged 5 to 14, assist instructors, and ensure effective communication with families while maintaining an organized classroom environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children between the ages of 5 and 14 years old.
• Support instructors in addressing children's needs and finding alternatives to difficult situations.
• Complete and monitor attendance sheets and ensure all required documentation is current for each participant.
• Facilitate programming and maintain an organized and clean classroom space.
• Communicate and collaborate with instructors and the program director.
• Act as a liaison with participants' families to ensure good communication regarding programs and the enrollment process.
• Outreach to families, Care Coordinators, Parent Coordinators, and the general community to promote program enrollment.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Friendly, engaging, and patient demeanor with children, peers, and families.
• Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
• Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize workload.
• Demonstrated cultural competency in working with diverse backgrounds.
• Strong interpersonal skills and verbal/written communication skills.
• Experience working with children with disabilities is a significant plus.
