About the position

The Specialist, Audio Software Engineer 1 position at L3Harris involves working within a team to develop embedded software for advanced tactical military radios. This role focuses on audio subsystems, requiring expertise in real-time programming and knowledge of VOCODERs and VoIP. The position is part of an Agile Scrum team and emphasizes collaboration in a fast-paced environment dedicated to securing the world through advanced technology.

Responsibilities

  • Member of an Agile Scrum team that develops software for advanced tactical radio equipment.
  • Responsible for research, design, and development of embedded software for software-defined radio products.
  • Develops and conducts software system testing procedures, programming, and documentation.
  • Provides technical support to internal and external customers, including factory software introduction support and manufacturing issue resolution.
  • Executes software development process in a CMMI Level 3 environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience, or Graduate Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience, or in lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
  • Ability to obtain a US security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience debugging audio hardware setups including speaker, microphone, and common audio processing pipelines.
  • Knowledge of industry speech codecs including MELP/MELPe, G.711 and AMR (GSM/NB).
  • Familiarity with common audio formats such as WAV/PCM.
  • Experience providing guidance, coaching, and training to other employees.
  • Experience with C, C++ and object-oriented design.
  • Experience with networking specific audio protocols (RTP, VoIP), including familiarity with configuration of unicast and multicast to support these protocols.
  • Experience implementing and debugging audio vocoder code to specification.
  • Experience in embedded firmware development with bare-metal and RTOS environments.
