About the position

The Career Coach at Yavapai College will serve under the Career Services Manager, focusing on coordinating and facilitating programs that promote job placement for learners and community members. This multifaceted role involves implementing effective coaching strategies to help clients overcome employment-related challenges, collaborating with various stakeholders, and providing resources for job seekers.

Responsibilities

  • Implement job coaching strategies to promote individual and academic success.
  • Deploy employment skills curriculum designed to increase employability and enhance client motivation.
  • Develop personalized career strategies through individual sessions and drop-in hours.
  • Assist learners in creating an online profile using the career development platform utilized by Yavapai College.
  • Assess job seekers' work history, skills, knowledge, ability, and interest to make appropriate job matches and refer to job openings, training, and support services.
  • Provide resources and guidance to learners and community members looking to change careers or update job-seeking skills.
  • Assist with developing resumes and cover letters, identify opportunities for employment, and assist with the application and interview process.
  • Maintain documentation of all client interactions.
  • Provide employers and job seekers opportunities to meet and discuss potential career opportunities.
  • Identify job-specific hiring criteria for degrees and certificate programs by working with program directors, instructors, and employers.
  • Connect YC students with local employers upon graduation/completion.
  • Provide job search placement assistance to individuals requesting employment services.
  • Disseminate information on career opportunities.
  • Search applicant files to locate qualified applicants for referrals to job openings.
  • Assist with activities such as job fairs, career expos, and recruitment events that lead to direct placement opportunities.
  • Connect REDC Career Services to those who can benefit from expertise in the workforce talent pipeline.
  • Facilitate workshops on a variety of career-related topics as requested by departments and clubs at Yavapai College.
  • Represent Career Services at YC Events, such as Transfer Fairs and new Student Orientation.
  • Assist Career Services Manager to distribute informational/promotional materials and attend events as appropriate.
  • Network with employers by participating in employers' forums and industry hiring events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • In-depth understanding of local job market trends, employer staffing needs, and job seeker qualifications.
  • Proven experience aligning workforce development initiatives with regional economic demands.
  • Knowledgeable of socioeconomic factors and industry trends that influence workforce demands.
  • Experience in job development, community outreach, and project management.
  • Strong foundation in job placement and recruitment techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and programs that foster economic and community development.
  • Skilled in designing workshops to assist job seekers with job placement.
  • Experience with HubSpot or similar client data management platforms (preferred).
  • Ability to travel and meet with clients, with flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Understanding of private industry structure and staffing needs.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and able to communicate ideas professionally and concisely.
  • Strong research, organizational, and time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional experience within a community college or higher education setting.
  • Previous experience as a Career Coach.
  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques and strong interviewing skills.
  • Proficient in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication; skilled in public speaking, presentations, problem-solving, decision-making, and customer service.
  • Knowledge of employment service as well as local office policies and procedures.
  • Ability to facilitate and manage meetings, events, and planning sessions effectively.
  • Strong multitasking skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Skilled in resolving issues and establishing effective working relationships.
