About the position

The specialist is responsible for providing technical manufacturing support in engineering, maintenance, and utilities (EMU) within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This role involves day-to-day engineering support for various processes including vaccine bulk manufacturing, filling, lyophilization, and packaging. The specialist will ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and contribute to the achievement of quality, safety, and operational cost goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical manufacturing support in engineering, maintenance, and utilities (EMU).
  • Support and monitor equipment performance and maintenance.
  • Propose and develop equipment and facility improvements.
  • Troubleshoot process equipment to ensure reliable and compliant operations.
  • Work with Operations and other engineers to maximize capacity and ensure efficient equipment operation.
  • Champion the preventive and predictive maintenance program.
  • Perform root cause analysis and identify reliability improvement opportunities.
  • Develop maintenance and repair strategies for bi-annual shutdowns.
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment problems and investigating atypical manufacturing events.
  • Serve as project engineer and manager for small projects, including scope development and commissioning testing.
  • Identify spare parts and stand-by equipment needed for maximum capacity and reliability.
  • Support maintenance scheduling and planning processes.
  • Participate in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) reviews and safety inspections.
  • Author Standard Operating Procedures and assist in training development.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering, Science, or a 4 Year Engineering Technology Degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Minimum of two years of manufacturing experience or technical support group experience.
  • Proficient in empowering leadership, flexibility, motivation, teamwork, problem-solving, communication, and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards such as ASME, IEEE, NFPA, CFR 1910, NIST, and ANSI.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Current Good Manufacturing Process (cGMP) for pharmaceutical and/or vaccine manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma Methodology, Root Cause Analysis, and Failure Mode Effects Analysis.
  • Knowledge in reliability engineering and asset life cycle management.
  • Experience with Computerized Management Maintenance Systems (SAP).
  • Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification.
