As a Product Engineer at Southwire Company, LLC, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of commercial products and their associated manufacturing processes. This position is based in Livermore, CA, where you will collaborate with a dedicated product development team to transform innovative ideas into market-ready products. Your responsibilities will include utilizing advanced design and simulation software to create detailed engineering drawings, as well as developing fabrication drawings for the sheet metal shop. You will be expected to generate design concepts that align with customer interests, budget constraints, and market research findings. In this role, you will select appropriate materials for product construction and design the manufacturing processes that will be employed. Regular meetings with the development team will be essential to discuss product ideas and ensure alignment with project goals. You will also be responsible for testing prototypes, making necessary adjustments through simulation software, and evaluating product prototypes to identify any potential safety hazards. Your expertise in SolidWorks, CAD, AutoCAD, and CAM software will be critical in executing these tasks effectively. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and have prior experience as a product engineer. A strong understanding of electrical codes and wiring diagrams, as well as experience with SAP or similar ERP programs, is required. Familiarity with ISO standards and engineering repository software, along with experience in 3D printing, will be advantageous. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, project management abilities, and a creative mindset are essential for success in this position. You will need to work efficiently with minimal supervision and be comfortable spending extended periods seated in front of a computer. Teamwork and collaboration are vital components of this role, as you will regularly engage with Manufacturing, Sales, Quality, and other engineering teams to brainstorm, design, and create innovative products. Your creative thinking skills will be put to the test as you design prototypes and devise unique solutions to any defects that arise. Additionally, strong interpersonal communication skills will be necessary to adapt your communication style to effectively engage with various stakeholders in the manufacturing environment.
