About the position

The Product Development Specialist at Southwire Company is responsible for designing commercial products and their associated manufacturing processes. This role involves coordinating with the product development team to transform ideas into marketable products, ensuring compliance with industry research and market regulations.

Responsibilities

• Design and draft engineering drawings of products using design and simulation software.
• Develop fabrication drawings for sheet metal shop use.
• Create design ideas based on customer interests, budgets, and market research.
• Select product materials and design the product manufacturing process.
• Meet with the development team to discuss product ideas.
• Test product prototypes and adjust designs via simulation software, evaluating prototypes for potential safety hazards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Previous experience working as a product engineer.
• In-depth knowledge of SolidWorks, CAD, AutoCAD, and CAM software.
• Knowledge of electrical codes and wiring diagrams.
• Experience with SAP or similar ERP programs.
• Familiarity with ISO and engineering repository software.
• Experience with 3D printing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Good project management skills.
• Creative and passionate about creating solutions to customer problems.
• Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work seated in front of a computer for long hours.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in creating 2D drawings from 3D models.
• Ability to create and use .stp files for production.
• Team-oriented attitude for collaboration with various teams.
