About the position

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Technician to support the Service Life Extension Operations (SLEO) unit at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna, NY. This role involves performing complex radiological work to enhance the life of testing programs within the Radioactive Materials Laboratory, including facility upgrades, waste removal activities, and legacy testing equipment removal. The position emphasizes the importance of safety and reliability in the operation of naval nuclear reactors and the training of U.S. Navy personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex radiological work to support radiological facility upgrades.
  • Conduct waste removal activities related to radiological materials.
  • Assist in the removal of legacy testing equipment.
  • Maintain intrinsic radiological capabilities to support sitewide NNL radiological casualties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 13 years of relevant experience.
  • Associate's degree in a related field with a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Journeyman's papers in a related field with a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous or current Production Radiological Supervisor experience.
  • Previous or current Radioactive Material Transporter experience.
  • Previous or current Glovebag worker experience.
  • Previous or current Glovebox worker experience.
