About the position

The Human Resource and Payroll Specialist at Le Moyne College is responsible for managing student employment hiring activities, including onboarding and compliance, while also providing support for payroll processing activities. This role ensures the accuracy and security of personnel and payroll data, maintains confidentiality, and collaborates with other HR specialists to complete various tasks and projects. The position emphasizes the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the college community.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all day-to-day student employment hiring activities including onboarding and compliance.
  • Provide explanations of the onboarding process and required documentation to students.
  • Work with Finance to ensure hiring managers submit proper student position justifications for approvals.
  • Conduct the E-Verify process for student hires.
  • Maintain accuracy and security of personnel and payroll data records.
  • Ensure confidentiality of HR and payroll information in accordance with laws and regulations.
  • Perform data entry for Period Activity Pay assignments.
  • Provide secondary payroll support by processing and reconciling payrolls in the absence of the manager.
  • Manage payment processing for printed checks and ensure timely mailing.
  • Collaborate with other Human Resource Specialists on additional tasks or projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant professional experience required.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in human resources or payroll.
  • Familiarity with payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and tax procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in computerized general ledger/payroll or ERP systems and Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel and Word.
  • Excellent listening, speaking, and writing skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Ability to establish trust and credibility within the organization while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and teamwork skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
