The Human Resources Specialist - Employee Leaves is responsible for implementing the district's leave program in accordance with established policies, rules, and regulations. This role involves processing and providing timely notifications and communications to employees and supervisors regarding leaves and absences. The specialist will work closely with campus and departmental administrative staff to manage daily absence reports and ensure compliance with various leave programs, including Family and Medical Leave (FML) and temporary disability leave. The position requires a strong understanding of leave administration, applicable laws, and district policies, as well as proficiency in desktop productivity applications such as the MS Office Suite. In addition to managing leave requests, the specialist will counsel employees and supervisors on leave benefits, ensuring that employees receive accurate information regarding deductions from pay, medical certification requirements, and return-to-work dates. The role also involves maintaining and reconciling employee leave records, including confidential medical information, in compliance with federal and state laws. The specialist will assist in preparing reports on employee leave status and utilization of leave programs, and will provide training to users of the absence management system to ensure correct utilization. The position requires strong time management skills, the ability to multi-task, and effective communication skills to interpret and disseminate information to individuals and groups. The specialist will also work cooperatively with the payroll department and risk management to process and coordinate all employee leaves and absences, including those related to workers' compensation claims.
