About the position

The Specialist Human Resources I role at First Student provides expert guidance to regional HR and management teams on pre-employment record checks, onboarding, and contractual compliance. This position is crucial in managing pre-employment screenings, conducting assessments in line with legal requirements, and handling adverse action/appeal processes. The role also supports employee hotline investigations and maintains case documentation, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and contractual hiring standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with new hire onboarding and I-9/E-Verify processes.
  • Manage pre-employment screenings and conduct assessments in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Handle adverse action and appeal processes related to employment records.
  • Support employee hotline investigations and maintain case documentation.
  • Conduct regular meetings to provide updates and training on onboarding and hiring compliance.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on new hires and termination records.
  • Collaborate with various HR functions and ensure confidentiality.
  • Assist with system updates and special projects.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree required (Bachelor's preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • 1-3 years of HR experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Time management skills and ability to handle investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with background checks and EEO/FCRA regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and customer service focused.
  • Team-oriented mindset.
