About the position

The Specialist II, Compensation at DC Water plays a crucial role in the Compensation Unit by reviewing job requirements, drafting job descriptions, and evaluating positions to ensure accurate job leveling and market pricing. This position assists in monitoring the effectiveness of compensation programs and initiatives, conducting job evaluations, and developing tools and reports to support data-driven compensation recommendations. The role also involves advising HR Business Partners and Talent Acquisition on salary proposals and assisting in the annual compensation review process.

Responsibilities

  • Review job requirements and draft job descriptions.
  • Evaluate positions for accurate job leveling and market pricing.
  • Assist Senior Compensation Specialists in monitoring compensation programs.
  • Conduct job evaluations and determine salary grade assignments.
  • Assist in planning and implementing compensation programs.
  • Conduct research on best practices in compensation.
  • Develop tools to track and analyze compensation metrics.
  • Advise HRBPs and Talent Acquisition on starting salaries.
  • Assist in the annual compensation review process.
  • Process compensation actions in HRIS databases.
  • Conduct salary surveys to benchmark compensation packages.
  • Assist in performing desk audits for job assignments.
  • Work on compensation projects and cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in compensation management and job evaluation.
  • Understanding of compensation theories and relevant labor laws.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with compensation for union employees.
  • Master's degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP Certification or similar preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
