About the position

The Specialist, Information Security Systems Engineer at L3Harris Technologies plays a crucial role in the design, development, and certification of cryptographic systems that support communication capabilities for military applications. This position requires collaboration with both software and hardware engineers to ensure compliance with NSA and FIPS 140 standards, as well as leading certification efforts and interfacing with customers to discuss project progress.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and apply NSA and FIPS 140 requirements to cryptography products.
  • Work with software and hardware design engineers to implement certification standards.
  • Produce design and testing documentation to validate implementation of requirements.
  • Lead NSA certification and FIPS 140 validation development efforts.
  • Interface with internal and external customers to discuss design, implementation, and certification progress.
  • Adapt to change, focus on timeliness, and collaborate in joint decision-making processes.
  • Ask questions and seek clarification on unfamiliar concepts, designs, and implementation details.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience, or a graduate degree with a minimum of 2 years of related experience, or 8 years of prior related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years' on-the-job experience related to cryptography design, implementation, and/or certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possesses one of the following certifications at time of hire, or obtain one within 6 months: Associate of CISSP, CISSP, CCNA Security, CSA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, SSCP.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Familiar with communications systems, computer networking concepts, protocols (including TCP/IP), and security methodologies.
  • Familiar with security engineering principles and processes.
  • Aware of basic security engineering design patterns, processes, and technologies.
  • Able to work in both group and individual settings under the direction of senior engineers.
  • Strong problem-solving, creative thinking, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Familiar with RF communications.
  • Experience with matrixed development teams and embedded systems engineering.
