About the position

The position is for a Senior Underwriter in the Property and Casualty team at Nationwide, focusing on New Business Professional Lines. The role involves assessing risk profiles, determining appropriate pricing and coverage, and maintaining relationships with brokers to generate premium dollars. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical background and experience in underwriting, particularly in complex insurance products.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and review applications, financial documents, and company management to determine proper insurance programs.
  • Service existing and new accounts, including issuing quote letters, binders, and policies.
  • Handle complex policy maintenance items and mid-term requests.
  • Review claim activity and take appropriate actions based on findings.
  • Achieve production and loss ratio goals by analyzing premium and loss results for assigned territory.
  • Promote company products and monitor industry trends to stay informed of new developments.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with brokers to generate profitable premium dollars.
  • Accompany other underwriters on marketing visits to broker offices.
  • Communicate with key underwriting personnel and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience underwriting New Business Professional Lines, specifically D&O, EPL, and E&O.
  • Strong foundation in financial analysis and understanding of financial documents.
  • Undergraduate studies in finance, accounting, economics, or risk management preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of underwriting policies and procedures specific to D&O, EPL, Fiduciary, E+O, and Crime insurance products.
  • Ability to communicate complex underwriting concepts effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous business or finance experience is helpful.
  • Legal knowledge related to insurance, contract, and business law preferred.
