About the position

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Specialist Mechanical Engineer with a focus on Robotics and Controls to join our team in Palm Bay, Florida. This role is pivotal in designing, implementing, and testing motion control and robotic integration solutions within a high precision, multi-degree of freedom environment. The successful candidate will work closely with mechanical design, electrical, and software teams to develop innovative motor, control, manipulation, and sensing solutions. The position aims to enhance automation in existing processes while also developing new processes and hardware from the ground up. Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and test motion control and robotic integration solutions.
  • Collaborate with mechanical design, electrical, and software teams to develop motor, control, manipulation, and sensing solutions.
  • Increase the level of automation in existing processes.
  • Develop new processes and hardware from the ground up.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant robotics and controls experience, or a Graduate Degree with a minimum of 2 years of related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
  • Ability to obtain Top Secret security clearance.
  • 2+ years of experience in mathematics of rotations (rotation matrices, quaternions, Euler angles, etc.) and Matlab.
  • 3+ years of experience with motor controls.
  • 2+ years of experience developing autonomy and control logic (e.g., state machines).

Nice-to-haves

  • Active security clearance is highly preferred.
  • Understanding of Homogeneous Transformations (Coordinate Frame Transformations).
  • Experience with serial linkages.
  • Simulink experience.
  • LabView experience.
  • Familiarity with sensing and/or computer vision methodologies.
  • System Modeling / System Identification.
  • Experience with robotic manipulation.
