About the position

The Specialist, Payroll at DC Water plays a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll for employees. This position involves collaborating with timekeepers and managers to manage payroll effectively, while also handling various payroll-related tasks such as setting up deductions, processing garnishments, and maintaining employee schedules in the Ceridian Time & Attendance Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and processing of payroll efficiently and accurately.
  • Set up employee level deductions such as saving bonds and union dues.
  • Establish employee direct deposit information.
  • Resolve Notices of Change (N.O.C.) from banks.
  • Process garnishment, child support, tax levy, bankruptcy, and student loan collection orders.
  • Request checks for garnishments, saving bonds, and union dues.
  • Handle direct deposit reversals and stop payments with banks.
  • Maintain tax profiles at the employee level.
  • Manage employee work schedules in Ceridian Time & Attendance Systems.
  • Communicate payroll information to employees, managers, and bank personnel.
  • Control and file time entry documents received.
  • Audit timekeeping data for accuracy.
  • Assist in preparing payroll journal entries.
  • Comply with applicable safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager, Payroll.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years of progressive related payroll experience.
  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
  • Ability to apply a good understanding of payroll procedures and techniques.
  • Effective communication skills to handle payroll inquiries and resolve issues.
  • Skill in performing basic mathematical computations accurately.
  • Knowledge of FLSA and Wage & Hour requirements.
  • Proficiency in applicable software programs, including MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
