About the position

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for leading and directing the workflow of the Payroll Department to ensure that payroll is processed accurately and in a timely manner. This role involves compiling, consolidating, and performing payroll data entry, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of payroll information such as hours worked, taxes, insurance, employee withholdings, and employee identification numbers from timesheets and other records. The Payroll Specialist will assist in ensuring that all operations of the Payroll Department are administered in accordance with company policies, principles, and procedures. In addition to data entry, the Payroll Specialist will review payroll data and correct any errors found in a timely manner to ensure the accuracy of payroll. This includes recording changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage, and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records. The role also involves recording data concerning the transfer of employees between departments and prorating expenses to be debited or credited to each department for cost accounting records. The Payroll Specialist will prepare periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions, as well as monthly and quarterly account reconciliations for all payroll and employee benefit accounts. Keeping records of leave pay and nontaxable wages, preparing and issuing paychecks, and preparing monthly payroll accruals are also key responsibilities. The Payroll Specialist may be assigned additional duties as needed. Responsibilities

  • Compile, consolidate, and perform payroll data entry of payroll information ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with ensuring that all operations of the Payroll Department are administered in accordance with Company policies, principles, and procedures.
  • Review payroll data and correct any errors found in a timely manner to ensure accuracy of payroll.
  • Record changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage, and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records.

  • Prorate expenses to be debited or credited to each department for cost accounting records.
  • Prepare periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly account reconciliations for all payroll and employee benefit accounts.
  • Keep records of leave pay and nontaxable wages.
  • Prepare and issue paychecks.
  • Prepare monthly payroll accrual, as well as assist in submission for payment.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree from a four-year college or university preferred; or eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years ADP or Ceridian payroll experience.
