The Public Relations Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the Public Relations Department of the Socorro Independent School District. The specialist will engage in writing, editing, and producing content for a range of mediums, including brochures, pamphlets, and social media platforms. In addition to content creation, the Public Relations Specialist will coordinate and execute special events, such as the Teacher of the Year ceremony and community meetings. This involves working closely with the Public Relations Coordinator and other team members to ensure that events are well-organized and effectively communicated. The specialist will also be responsible for developing videos and broadcast programs that showcase the district's initiatives and achievements, ensuring high production values and creativity. The position demands strong organizational and interpersonal skills, as the specialist will maintain ongoing contact with district personnel and assist in recognizing the accomplishments of students, employees, and community members. The role also includes managing the district's social media presence, producing engaging content, and responding to inquiries from stakeholders. Overall, the Public Relations Specialist is expected to uphold the district's safety policies, provide excellent customer service, and contribute positively to the district's communication efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the promotion of the Socorro Independent School District and its goals to internal and external audiences through various means of communication.
  • Assists with writing and editing stories for internal and external mediums, including district brochures, pamphlets, and other informational and promotional material.
  • Works in conjunction with the Public Relations Coordinator to coordinate and execute special events for the district, including Teacher of the Year, back-to-school events, and districtwide community meetings.
  • Collaborates with the Senior Communications Specialist and the District Media Specialist to develop videos and broadcast programs that are creative and exemplary in content and production values.
  • Creates an understanding and positive image of the district's Partners In Education Program by building and maintaining strong relations with school and community leaders, partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Assists the department in producing messages and photos for the district's social media and manages the district's social media.
  • Recognizes students, employees, administration, board members, and community members for accomplishments relating to the district.
  • Maintains ongoing contact with district personnel, campus personnel, and other individuals associated with the district to assist with special events and/or projects.
  • Researches, writes, edits, develops, and lays out informative or promotional district publications in collaboration with the Senior Communications Specialist and graphic artists.
  • Communicates, collaborates, and works with outside agencies, businesses, and/or community organizations on a variety of projects while providing excellent customer service.
  • Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the SISD safety program.
  • Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor.
  • Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruptions to district operations.
  • Provides optimal customer service to all students, employees, parents, community members, and any other stakeholders of the district.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in communications or related field (preferred), or 5 equivalent years in directly related experience.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Three years professional experience in journalism, public relations, communications, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in the field of writing for publications and/or radio and television.
  • Knowledge and ability in the field of photography.
