About the position

The Specialist Public Relations role at VITAS Healthcare is responsible for creating, planning, and executing public relations strategies to enhance the organization's image and awareness among various audiences. This position involves developing media relations programs, managing press releases, and collaborating with senior management to address media inquiries and promote VITAS's mission effectively.

Responsibilities

• Plan and oversee public relations efforts to meet organizational needs and objectives.
• Develop media relation programs to strengthen relationships with healthcare communities and enhance the organization's image.
• Prepare and distribute communication materials such as fact sheets, news releases, and photographs to field staff.
• Implement media relations plans and respond to media inquiries in collaboration with senior management.
• Research facts and resources, identify news sources, and communicate proactively with journalists.
• Inform field staff about media relations roles and develop processes for managing expectations.
• Manage distribution of press releases and monitor results of initiatives.
• Engage in relationship building with community foundations, agencies, and media organizations.
• Research and complete award applications and provide media training to field staff.
• Monitor major media in VITAS markets and track relevant issues.

Requirements

• Minimum five years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
• Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and other software packages such as Outlook and Excel.
• Ability to communicate tactfully, verbally and in writing, with various stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

• Healthcare experience preferred.
• Ability to work on various assignments simultaneously.
