About the position

The Safety Specialist at Cheniere Energy, Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting the Health, Safety, & Environmental (HSE) Department. Reporting directly to the Health & Safety Supervisor, this position is responsible for implementing, reinforcing, and adhering to various programs, policies, procedures, and processes that align with Cheniere's Health, Safety, & Environmental strategies. The Safety Specialist will engage in a variety of safety tasks to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, including conducting audits, inspections, and field observations of high-risk activities. This role requires a solid understanding of safety regulations and practices, particularly in relation to LNG (liquefied natural gas) operations, and the ability to provide technical advice to operations and maintenance teams. In this position, the Safety Specialist will assist in the development and implementation of safety programs aimed at educating and training personnel to minimize occupational incidents and hazards. Responsibilities include specifying and maintaining safety equipment, documenting safety conditions, and providing guidance to LNG Operations & Maintenance staff. The Safety Specialist will also be involved in incident investigations, data entry in Cheniere's Incident Management System, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations during major capital projects. The role demands a proactive approach to safety management, with a focus on continuous improvement and adherence to Cheniere's Health and Safety program requirements. The work environment is dynamic, requiring the Safety Specialist to perform duties in both indoor and outdoor settings, often under varying weather conditions. The position involves physical demands such as climbing, lifting, and standing for extended periods, and requires the ability to navigate high-risk environments safely. The Safety Specialist must also be prepared to work in a rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure continuous safety oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and adhere to safety programs, policies, and procedures in support of HSE strategies.
  • Conduct routine inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety training programs for personnel.
  • Provide technical advice and support to operations and maintenance staff regarding safety practices.
  • Document and report safety conditions to relevant supervisors and management.
  • Participate in investigations of safety incidents and near misses, determining root causes and corrective actions.
  • Monitor hazardous work and assist in planning and executing non-routine work events.
  • Evaluate and identify regulatory requirements and assist in policy development for safety compliance.
  • Support clean-up efforts for minor spills and report all leaks/spills to production supervision.
  • Facilitate safety meetings and participate in shift handover meetings.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health or relevant discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of related experience in HSE or Emergency Response.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required; CSP/ASP certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and practices related to LNG operations.
  • Ability to prepare and present information to various audiences effectively.
  • Strong leadership and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple activities.
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of investigation techniques and root cause analysis.

Nice-to-haves
