About the position

The Specialist, Senior Professional Nursing Admissions and Advising/Recruiting at Austin Community College is responsible for promoting, recruiting, and advising candidates for admission into the Professional Nursing ADN program. This role involves engaging with prospective students, providing essential information about the program, and supporting students through the admissions process while ensuring compliance with federal regulations and promoting student success.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge and skills for the Professional Nursing Program Advising/Recruiting Specialist position.
  • Create and share presentations and conduct recruiting visits to inform prospective students about available options and programs.
  • Assist students in completing admissions and financial aid applications, and assess transcripts and testing requirements.
  • Support students with specialized needs, including combat veterans, students on the autism spectrum, and others as identified by ACC leadership.
  • Conduct follow-up interviews with students to assess their needs.
  • Proctor ATI TEAs Exams.
  • Ensure presence at high schools in the ACC service area as assigned.
  • Attend college fairs, conduct tours, and participate in events to recruit prospective students.
  • Advise students on degree plans, admissions, registration procedures, and financial aid information.
  • Establish and maintain an active role in the community for recruitment purposes.
  • Assist in developing recruitment and advising materials.
  • Maintain and update records and submit recruiting reports as appropriate.
  • Plan and facilitate programming and workshops for student adjustment to college life.
  • Promote activities supporting federal compliance with alcohol and drug prevention programs and Title IX.
  • Identify cases of suspected domestic abuse or self-harm and refer students to mental health services.
  • Inform ADN Success Coaches and faculty about available student services.
  • Guide students during advising sessions on educational issues and financial wellness.
  • Support students in the application and administration of financial aid.
  • May mentor and/or train Professional Nursing advising specialists.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Two years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of college admission and financial aid procedures.
  • Understanding of current advising theory, trends, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with student databases and information management systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual: English - Spanish
  • ACC Foundational Advising Competency certification.
  • ACC Advising Coach Skills certification.
