About the position

As a member of the Payroll Operations team within the Finance Division at American Airlines, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the timely and accurate processing of employee payroll checks. This includes the collection, review, input, editing, output, and verification of payroll data. Your responsibilities will extend to maintaining the security and confidentiality of all payroll-related information, as well as reviewing audit reports for accuracy and requesting corrections as necessary. You will also be tasked with researching team member inquiries and providing timely solutions, demonstrating your knowledge of labor agreements and applicable processing requirements for specific workforce groups, such as unions. In this role, you will be expected to organize and maintain records using special processing techniques that minimize incorrect payments to employees. Adherence to existing SOX processing maps and requirements is essential. Additionally, you will assist in special projects, system testing, and other duties as assigned, while providing training and updates to documentation as needed. You will support the successful completion of all banking inbound and outbound ACH and check payment files, and communicate any discrepancies to the payroll supervisor or department timekeeper as necessary. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance in payroll operations.

Responsibilities

  • Processes payroll data accurately by the required deadline
  • Consistently applies company policy and government regulations to all processing
  • Maintains the security and confidentiality of all payroll related information
  • Reviews audit reports for accuracy and requests corrections as necessary
  • Researches team member inquiries and provides solutions as required in a timely manner
  • Knowledgeable of labor agreements and applicable processing requirements to specific workforce groups, such as unions
  • Organizes and maintains records utilizing special processing that reduces the occurrences of incorrect payments to employees
  • Adheres to existing SOX processing maps and requirements
  • Assists in special projects, system testing, and other duties as assigned
  • Provides training and updates documentation as needed

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent or equivalent training/experience
  • 3 years of working in a high volume, multi-state payroll department

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with payroll systems (SAP preferred)
  • Above average customer experience and organizational skills
  • Ability to work as a team player in a high stress environment
  • Use of analytical skills to identify and address potential issues
  • Ability to explain and interpret complex payroll information to employees at all levels of the organization
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Excel, Word, Planner)
