About the position

As a Specialist in Financial Reporting (Statutory) at Lincoln Financial Group, you will play a crucial role in preparing, analyzing, and reporting on financial statements in accordance with statutory accounting principles and standards. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to leverage their knowledge in financial reporting while managing routine assignments and projects. You will be responsible for ensuring that all financial reporting activities align with the established accounting and reporting calendars, and you will conduct thorough financial analyses on both consolidated and business unit results. Your insights will support various business unit teams and partners, enhancing the overall financial reporting process. In addition to preparing and analyzing financial statements, you will participate in accounting close activities, which include the preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations. Staying informed about current and emerging developments in financial reporting is essential, as you will assess their impact on your assigned areas of responsibility and collaborate with management to integrate these trends into current and future solutions. You will also be tasked with identifying and researching any reporting issues that arise from the application of accounting principles and standards, ensuring compliance with regulations set forth by the NAIC and other governing bodies. Your role will involve the preparation, review, and filing of quarterly and annual NAIC financial statements and other regulatory filings. You will promote and enhance organizational initiatives by positively influencing change management and departmental initiatives. Additionally, you will identify and communicate process improvements to management that can reduce workloads or enhance quality within your areas of responsibility. This position requires a proactive approach to routine assignments and projects, utilizing your expertise in financial reporting to deliver high-quality results.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, analyze and report on financial statements and supporting schedules according to the accounting and reporting calendars.
  • Conduct financial analysis on consolidated and business unit results, providing ongoing support for business unit teams and partners as needed.
  • Participate in accounting close activities, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Maintain knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned areas of responsibility and collaborate with management to incorporate new trends into solutions.
  • Identify and research reporting issues arising from application of accounting principles and standards and assess their applicability.
  • Prepare, review and file quarterly and annual NAIC financial statements and other regulatory filings.
  • Promote and enhance organizational initiatives by supporting change management and departmental initiatives.
  • Identify and communicate process improvements to management that reduce workloads or improve quality.
  • Perform and deliver on routine assignments/projects while leveraging knowledge of assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Provide support with the coordination of SOX, MAR and regulatory testing to comply with key controls developed for the group.
  • Prepare and/or review internal management reporting.

Requirements

  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience, preferably in Accounting.
  • 1 - 3+ Years of experience in Financial Analysis or Reporting that aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position.
  • CPA preferred, not required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate confidently and comfortably.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to identify and recommend process improvements.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and multi-task while maintaining strict attention to detail.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and discretion regarding confidential information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in insurance/financial services.
  • Experience working with Hyperion Essbase, SAP Business Objects, PeopleSoft, Workiva, Sovos Statutory Reporting.
