About the position

As a Specialist in Statutory Financial Reporting at Lincoln Financial Group, you will play a crucial role in preparing, analyzing, and reporting on financial statements in accordance with statutory accounting principles and standards. This position requires a strong understanding of financial reporting responsibilities and the ability to deliver on routine assignments and projects effectively. You will be responsible for ensuring that financial statements and supporting schedules are prepared accurately and in a timely manner, adhering to the established accounting and reporting calendars. In this role, you will conduct financial analysis on both consolidated and business unit results, providing ongoing support to business unit teams and various partners as needed. You will also participate in accounting close activities, which include preparing journal entries and performing account reconciliations. Staying informed about current and emerging developments in your areas of responsibility is essential, as you will need to assess their impact and collaborate with management to incorporate new trends into current and future solutions. Additionally, you will identify and research any reporting issues that arise from the application of accounting principles and standards, as well as the rules and regulations set forth by the NAIC and other regulators. Your responsibilities will also include the preparation, review, and filing of quarterly and annual NAIC financial statements and other regulatory filings. You will be expected to promote and enhance organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management within your assigned areas of responsibility. Your role will involve identifying and communicating process improvements to management that can reduce workloads or improve quality. You will provide support with the coordination of SOX, MAR, and regulatory testing to ensure compliance with key controls developed for the group, as well as prepare and/or review internal management reporting. This position requires a confident communicator who can work effectively in a team environment and demonstrate a sense of urgency in meeting deadlines while maintaining strict attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, analyze and report on financial statements and supporting schedules according to the accounting and reporting calendars.
  • Conduct financial analysis on consolidated and business unit results, providing ongoing support for the business unit teams and various partners as needed.
  • Participate in accounting close activities, including the preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Maintain knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned areas of responsibility, assess the impact, and collaborate with management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.
  • Identify and research reporting issues arising from application of accounting principles and standards and rules and regulations of the NAIC and other regulators and assess their applicability.
  • Preparation, review and filing of quarterly and annual NAIC financial statements and other regulatory filings.
  • Promote and enhance organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Identify and communicate to management process improvements that reduce workloads or improve quality for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Perform and deliver on routine assignments/projects while simultaneously leveraging and applying knowledge of assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Provide support with the coordination of SOX, MAR and regulatory testing to comply with key controls developed for the group.
  • Preparation and/or review of internal management reporting.

Requirements

  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience, preferably in Accounting.
  • 1 - 3+ Years of experience in Financial Analysis or Reporting that aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position.
  • CPA preferred, not required.
  • Confident, comfortable communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to identify and recommend process improvements.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and multi-task while maintaining strict attention to detail.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and discretion regarding confidential information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in insurance/financial services.
  • Experience working with Hyperion Essbase, SAP Business Objects, PeopleSoft, Workiva, Sovos Statutory Reporting.
